Local Attractions around Wainui

Wainui, 30 minutes north of Auckland's CBD, is just a blip on the map. 7 minutes west of the Silverdale town ship Wainui features not a lot (this of course, is one of Wainui's wonderful pluses) and your country cottage WATERFALL LODGE on the 45 acres of idyllic farmland of Wainui Country Retreat.  Beyond the private waterfall and tree lined valley surrounding the cottage, there is also much to explore and see just minutes away.

  • Take a walk around the farm (with or without us), meet the animals, enjoy the native bush & birdlife , meet the variety animals- alpacas, sheep. goats, free flying lorikeet and much more.

  • Private Horse riding lessons available at the Galaxy Equine at the neighbouring farm.
    N.B. Appointments arranged in advance, through Wainui Country Retreat, appointments are necessary.
  • Try your skiing skills out at Snow Planet, have fun at the luge or go-carting, all in -Silverdale.
  • The quaint village of Silverdale features many apparel factory out lets such as Bendon & Moontide for the keen weekend shopper. The Saturday morning Silverdale market dayis a must.
  • Silverdale Pioneer Village- a must. This offers a wonderful peak into the area's history. Weekends only during winter.
  • Great restaurants 10-15 minutes in both directions from here.
  • 10 minutes further west is the township of Kaukapakapa and 15 minutes west Helensville & the Parakai Hot Thermal Pools on the Kaipara Harbour and its attractions.
  • The historic township of Puhoi 20 mins north - featuring the famous Art of Cheese factory and cafe, the notorious Puhoi Pub, River Canoe hire plus much more.
  • Hibiscus Coast beaches such as Orewa only 10-12 minutes drive ,
  • Gulf Harbour and the Whangaparoa beaches just 12-25 mins away . Take a ferry ride to Tiritiri or Kawau Islands from nearby Whangaparoa.
  • Waiwera Thermal Pools- 5-10 mins north of Orewa
  • Couldrey House at Wenderholm Regional Park
  • Woodhill Bikepark for the keen mountain biker, horse rider or 4x4 enthusiasts, just past Helensville.
  • Wainui Settlers Church, opposite the farm, ideal for small wedding services, with of course Waterfall lodge, the honeymoon cottage , within walking distance.
  • Golf course only 5 mins drive to Northridge Conference Center and golf course
  • Sheepworld - Farm and Nature Park, near Warkworth for sheep and dog shows
  • Spend a day in Auckland city visiting the famous Kelly Tarltons underwater world or Auckland's Maritime Meusem at the Viaduct basin .

 

  • The other great activity is simply to do nothing, put up your feet, relax, read, absorb the fresh air and enjoy your vacation getaway from the comforts of your country cottage.
